cocktail hour

When it comes to Thanksgiving and holiday cocktails my family gets pretty serious! When our guests arrive we give them the choice of beer, wine, or these lovely cranberry daiquiris. 100 percent of the time they go for the daiquiri! And why wouldn’t they? These puppies are delicious, festive and loaded with fresh cranberries. We have learned our lesson over the years and tripled the recipe. People can’t get enough!

I highly recommend that you all run to the nearest liquor store and stock up on rum before your next holiday gathering. You can thank me later.

Cranberry daiquiri (serves 6) inspired by Gourmet Magazine
Dissolve 1/2 cup sugar in 1/2 cup of water in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add 1 cinnamon stick and 1/2 tsp grated orange peel; bring to a boil. Mix in 1/2 cup fresh cranberries and cook until cranberries begin to pop. Cool; discard cinnamon stick. Pour mixture into jar; add 1/2 cup light rum. Chill. Strain syrup into pitcher; reserve cranberries. Add 6 tbs each dark rum, light, cranberry juice, and lemon juice to pitcher. Chill. Serve in glasses and garnish with cranberries. Enjoy!

These look wonderful. Thanks for all the insight about what goes into good food. I truly admire your willingness to dispatch your own chicken. I know I should volunteer for one of Pete & Jen’s processing day here in Concord but I have not mustered the courage yet. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Take care.
