We wrote a big check today. A one-year lease for the land we will be farming. Yikes!

It was very monumental to say the least. There may have been another sleepless night last night in anticipation of this big investment.

So here is the skinny on Tumbleweed.
It is a two acre plot in the next town over. (Parkdale) We are leasing the land from some really nice folks who live on the property. Our plan is to farm many of the same vegetables we were farming at Hutchins Farm. Obviously we will be doing this on a smaller scale. Hutchins was 60 acres and Tumbleweed will be 2. However, since it will only be the two of us we feel like this is the perfect size to start off with.

The rain and clouds greeted us as we arrived. In the summertime Mt. Hood is our backdrop! It is breathtaking.

Our plan with Tumbleweed is to sell our produce at two farmers markets and to possibly do a small CSA.

We came up with the name Tumbleweed because we think it describes us pretty well. Taylor made the sign from scratch. We love it.

This time in our lives is exciting but we are extremely nervous as well. Being a farmer is not the biggest money maker. However, if we are lucky we will get by just fine and hopefully eat like kings and queens!

And with 30 pounds of garlic ready to be planted I’d say we are right on track!
