blueberries granola and more

I hope you all had a nice holiday weekend.  Ours was spent relaxing, cooking, and spending time with my in-laws.

I am not sure if I have mentioned this before but every Saturday since we moved back I have made this granola.

It is seriously the best granola I have ever had, and I really don’t mind spending a few hours in the kitchen making it.  We eat it almost every morning so it doesn’t last very long.

Another interesting thing that has been happening on the weekends, is that I have been ending my Saturday runs (which are normally longer than my weekday runs) at this little hole in the wall.

There is some higher power that takes over me and I just can’t explain it.

Alright, enough about the weekends, here is something exciting:

While I have been busy planting lettuce and weeding strawberries, Taylor has been busy plating new blueberry bushes!!  We grow some amazing blueberries at Hutchins Farm, and it is really exciting that we are starting to grow some new bushes!

They are tiny, and a few years out from producing, but very exciting none the less.  I can almost taste the blueberries.  They will be awesome in the granola.

Anyway, dinner tonight was simple and easy because we are beat.

Baked chicken with rosemary (from the farm!) olive oil, roasted garlic, salt and pepper.  With a side of green beans which I topped with toasted almonds, garlic, and parmesan cheese.  And some brown rice to round out a nice dinner.  We are currently  drinking peppermint tea and getting ready to play a game of banana grams (sort of like scrabble) to see who has to do dishes.  Wish me luck I hate dishes!!

Always fun to read your recipes, meal ideas and farm updates. And of course, it’s always great to see Henry.
I was wondering – You often provide good photos of various farm tasks, and lovely images of different features of Hutchins Farm. Would you like to write some little overall pieces on how to care for an organic farm of that size? Just to educate those of us who are – unfortunately – removed from agricultural life.
Of course, you’re very busy & work really hard – You sure don’t need me telling you how to do your blog – which is wonderful. Just thinking that it would be so interesting to get an overview of how the farm runs. Do you have staff meetings? Who decides what tasks should be done and when, and who assigns the chores? Last week you posted a photo of your husband & another team member – Do you usually work in teams of three, or does it vary? It looks like you can take a day off regularly – Is there always someone on duty at the farm?
Just wondering about the details of a farmer’s life. The photos are so lovely, and your blog is so interesting – It’s easy to forget the hard work that makes it possible for us to enjoy good, fresh food. Thanks for considering this little suggestion. Have a great day!
