a treat for henry

There are few things in life Henry enjoys more than a good bone and a nice fire hydrant to pee on.

Oh wait, he love treats.

And since I love him, I decided it would be nice to combine his 3 favorite things.

Thanks to our awesome friend Pam for helping me with the recipe.  She is a pro and has made these delicious biscuits before.

Henry has happily enjoyed a few treats!

The poor guy had to wait an extra minute for his treat while I worked the camera.  He had drool dripping down.

If you have a dog these treats are easy to make.  And if you don’t have a dog make them for yourself.  They tasted awesome.  Especially with a cup of tea.

This recipe is from bullwinkle.com

1 cup rolled oats

1/3 cup butter

1 cup boiling water

2 tsp instant chicken bullion

1/2 cup milk

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 egg, beaten

2 cups white or wheat flour

Preheat oven to 325.  Grease cookie sheets.  in a large bowl combine rolled oats, butter and water; let stand for 10 minutes.  stir in cornmeal, bullion, milk, cheese and egg. Mix well. Add flour 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each cup to form a stiff dough.

On a floured surface, knead in remaining flour until dough is smooth and no longer sticky, 3-4 minutes.  roll or pat out dough to 1/2 inch thickness; cut with cookie cutter.  Place 1 inch apart on sheet.  Bake for 35-45 minutes.  Enjoy

Good dog, he knows how to wait until we let him eat!

Henry has amazing discipline! You know, he might be a good therapy dog. You surely will have your hands full when planting season begins, but next winter when you’re off, maybe you’d want to consider getting him licensed as a therapy dog. He could visit and bring a lot of love and happiness to residents of nursing homes, special-needs children, or people in hospice or in other health-care settings. Henry might like it, and you’d probably draw deep satisfaction from seeing how Henry enriches those peoples’ lives. Just a thought… Henry is a sweet soul, and you’re terrific for making him such tasty treats!

That is a great idea. However, Henry still has a lot of training ahead of him. We have worked hard with him, (he was very hyper when we first got him!!) And he has calmed down a lot. But he still needs work. I imagine when he gets a little older that would be something really rewarding we could do. Until then, he is our therapy dog!!
